Session 15 of 24 โ€” AI Builder

AI Builder ยท Session 15 of 24โฑ 30 min ยท ๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Parent aware

๐ŸŽฌ AI and Storytelling

Write a script โ€” learn how professional storytellers use AI.

๐ŸŽฏ Today's goal: Your child writes a short script using professional storytelling techniques โ€” and discovers how AI fits into real creative workflows.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Warm Up โ€” 3 minutes

Warm Up

"Films, TV shows, games โ€” they all start with a script. A script is different from a story: it has to describe exactly what the audience sees and hears."

"Today you write one. It will be harder than it sounds."

๐Ÿค– The Activity โ€” 20 minutes

Main Activity

Teach me the basics of script format. How is a script different from a story? What are the elements of a scene heading, action line, and dialogue? Give me one example scene that shows all these elements.

Read the example. Understand the format before writing in it.

I want to write a short script โ€” one scene, about 1 page. The scene: two people who used to be best friends meet unexpectedly after not speaking for a year. One of them did something wrong but never apologised. Write the scene header and the first four lines of dialogue only. Leave it on a moment of tension.

Read the opening. Ask your child: What did one person do wrong? Why have they not apologised? What do they each want from this meeting? Your child fills in the backstory โ€” AI does not know it yet.

Here are the answers I decided: [child fills in their answers]. Now continue the scene. The character who did wrong is about to either apologise or deflect. Write 6 more lines of dialogue. Do not resolve the tension โ€” increase it.

Your child writes the ending themselves โ€” no AI. Their ending. Their resolution.

๐Ÿงฉ The Twist โ€” 5 minutes

Deep Dive
๐Ÿ“‹ Type this exactly
In professional screenwriting โ€” what do AI tools do well and what do they do poorly? Be honest. Where do human writers still have a clear advantage?

Read together. Ask: If AI can write dialogue โ€” what is the job of a human screenwriter in 2026? The answer matters for any child who wants to work in creative fields.

๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ Safety Moment
“AI is a tool, not a friend”

Creative AI use feels intimate โ€” especially when writing characters with real emotions. The warmth you felt in that scene was yours. You made the characters real. AI provided the sentences. The creative act was yours.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ‘ง Parent: read this aloud. Ask your child to repeat it back.

What they learned

Scriptwriting and advanced creative AI use โ€” understanding format, subtext, and the human element that AI cannot generate without direction.

Questions to ask
  • What did the character who did wrong actually do โ€” and why have they not apologised?
  • What was the hardest line to write?
  • What does the ending you wrote say about what you believe about forgiveness?
What to watch for

This session often produces surprisingly sophisticated emotional writing from children aged 10-13. Do not be surprised by the depth.

Safety in context

The creative writing sessions in Builder are the ones most likely to produce genuinely personal content. Give your child space.
