🔭 Finding Planets
How AI discovers planets around other stars.
Stuck at any point? Ask an AI about this page →🎯 Today's goal: Your child understands how AI finds exoplanets from data patterns — and why this is impossible for humans to do manually.
🔥 Warm Up
Warm Up
How many stars do you think there are in our galaxy? Have a guess.
Now — how would you find a planet around each of those stars? That is the problem AI solves.
🤖 The Activity
Main Activity
📋 Type this exactly
How does AI find exoplanets — planets around other stars? Explain the transit method and how AI is used to process the data. Why couldn't humans do this without AI?
📋 Type this exactly
Tell me about the most interesting exoplanet discovered so far. What makes it unusual? How was it found? Could it have life?
📋 Type this exactly
If we found strong evidence of life on an exoplanet tomorrow — what would happen next? Walk me through the process from discovery to announcement.
🧩 The Twist

📋 Type this exactly
Has AI ever found something in space that turned out to be completely unexplained — something that even now has no agreed explanation?
Fact-check this one — the answer is genuinely interesting.
🛡️ Safety Moment
“AI makes mistakes — always check”
Even NASA AI systems produce false positives — every exoplanet candidate needs human verification before announcement.

▼What they learned
Data processing at astronomical scale — builds intuition about why AI matters for big data.
Questions to ask
- Why can't humans check every star manually?
- What would it mean to find life on another planet?
- What is a false positive — and why does it matter?
